What Do I Buy My Adult Children for Christmas?!?

I LOVE gift giving and the whole holiday season!

Every year, without fail, my mother asks me for a Christmas list. I mean, every year… and I am well into adulthood at this point.

I’ve lived on my own since I was 18 and in a house or apartment of some sort for the last 15+ years. Two dorm rooms, four apartments, and three houses later, it’s come to the point where I have basically anything I could want or need. AND anything I don’t already have, I usually buy myself. So what then do you put on a Christmas list? What is it there I can ask for that I don’t already have??

For the last several years, I’ve struggled to come up with a solid list of things I’ve actually wanted. And not just frivolous things for the sake of having things but items I actually want. When I put something on my list, I want it to be because it’s something I’ll use and that I’ll love having in my life.

This year, it dawned on me… why not use the same gifting method I use for other people… but with myself?!? Instead of trying to search the depths of my brain every December and every birthday, I keep an ongoing “gift” list in the notes app on my phone.

On my list, I have the names of my close friends and family. Throughout the year, whenever they talk about something they would want or need, OR when an idea pops in my head for them, I write it on the list. IMMEDIATELY.

It works. I love this method. For example, today, when my mom asked me what my boyfriend might want for Christmas, I had a quick and easy list of ideas and interests for her to pull from. :)

For myself, I’ve started keep a running amazon wish list and a notes app list in my phone.

Do you ever stop yourself when you are looking at your online cart and say, “Do I really need this?”. If the answer is in any way, “no, but…”., then add it to your wish list!!

This year, for the first time, I didn’t have to hesitate when my mom asked the question I had dreaded in the past, “What do you want for Christmas?”.

With that, here are a few of the things on my holiday list as an adult. I hope my list can serve as some inspiration for you in your holiday shopping adventures.

Smartphone Accessories
As someone always on the go and recording/documenting, having accessories for pictures, video, travel, and more, is always something I would love to have!

Hobby Gear
I have soooooo many hobbies. I love gardening, hiking, camping, art, yoga, fitness, cooking and so so so much more. There is ALWAYS something I could use for one of my hobbies or that I would love to have to make things easier. Here are a few of the hobbie related things on my list this year!

My Favorite Things & Home Essentials
I can ALWAYS use more of my favorite pants, glasses, and towels. There are things I use every day that I would love to have new versions of. I could also use an upgrade or replacement for a few things around my home/kitchen. This year, those things include:

Can you spot one of my favorite things to give? The BEST plant food.

I hope that in seeing some of the things on my list this year, you find a little inspiration to shop for the other adults in your life. The real key is, it doesn’t have to be difficult, complicated, or expensive. It’s truly the thought that counts. If you’re struggling to come up with an idea, consider the person and their interests. Maybe a gift card for an experience would be something they would love. What about paying for their gym membership for a month or getting them a set of good pens to use with their journal? Did they mention they hate their can opener recently? Why not get them one? That may seem like a silly gift, but it shows you were paying attention.

And perhaps, just maybe, a physical gift isn’t the right call at all. Consider the receivers love language. Maybe, all they want is quality time with YOU.

No matter what you do this holiday season, spread love and joy.

With Love,

Katey

P.S. I share these products because they are things I personally want or that I already own and LOVE. While I do earn a commission from any purchase made from these links, I will only share things I believe in and love!!
