15 Travel Necessities from a Girl on the Go
If you’ve been following me on Instagram or Facebook at all, you KNOW that this girl is always on the go. Over the last year, I’ve easily spent at least a 1/4 of the year on the road, in the car, or traveling somewhere. With the recent announcement of my addition to Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters (AND with the fact that I am in a long distance relationship), you can be sure that my number of days on the road are only going to increase in 2024.
I will likely be spending just as much time away from home as I will be at home this year. That means, I’ve got to bring and make my feeling “home” as much on the road with me as it is at my place of residence. As someone with chronic pain. major food intolerances, and multiple autoimmune diseases, it is especially essential that I have a solid set of tools in place to help me stay healthy and well while on the road.
Over the last 9 years on the road with my band, Fun DMC, I spent a lot of time, money, and effort buying. trying, testing, and cultivating my set of must-have travel items. I’m so excited to share those with you and hope they only help you live more the life you want to in 2024!
The travel bags I have on this (and most every) trip.
Let’s Talk Luggage
First and foremost, where are you going to put everything and how are you going to haul it? I have a few pieces I absolutely LOVE and use all of the time.
My Backpack - This thing goes with me everywhere and has been my go-to back-pack for years!! I have recommended this backpack to so many people that now my sister, business partner, best friend, and I all have the same backpack!!! Thank goodness it comes in different sizes and colors!
This Garment Bag/Duffle Combo - I love this bag so much I have it with me on this trip. I love that it is a versatile piece of luggage that is easy to carry and small enough to stow wherever. I can sling it over my should and be on the go in a jiff but still have a quick way to hang important items if I need!
Matching Toiletry and Jewelry Bag - This girl loves a good theme and things that match. I’ve been gravitating toward a light pink (It’s easy to spot when I’m traveling with others AND simply makes me smile) but it also comes it other colors like classic grey and black.
I keep my toiletry bag stocked at all times with a set of my personal items. I have a back up razor (my favorite being Billie), contact case, set of glasses, and more that all just STAYS in that bag.
The Jewelry Bag is also perfect for longer trips where I need to have all of the options with me!
Day Trip or Overnight Jewelry Bag - If I’m going on just an overnight trip or have a weekend out of town with the band, this bag is PERFECT!!!!! I love, love, love it for all of my short trips and gigs!
Organizing Bag - These bags are a must have!! I love separating closes by outfit or types. Especially if I’ve got an event, gig, etc, that I’m going to that requires a separate outfit from my “everyday” clothes.
The necessities I have next to me NOW
On the Road Health, Wellness, and Pain Management
We all know by know that I’ve got some pretty rough health stuff. So HOW do I manage on the road?
Lacrosse balls - Call me crazy, but these things are MAGIC. You will almost always find one in my car and a second on in my backpack. I like to place one behind my back in a tension spot while I’m driving or sitting and working. They are GREAT for deep pressure massage and release.
Massage Gun - This has been the most helpful post-gig tool. Truly, if you are active at all, deal with muscle tension, or are simply sore regularly, this guy is a must.
Journal - Mental Health is just as important as physical health and a HUGE contributor to physical health and wellness. I keep a notebook or journal with me at almost all times!! Whether to write down an idea, vent in a safe space, or simply recall the events of the day, a journal is a necessity in my world
Planner - Rainbow Vision has some of my all time favorite planners. I’m a brain dump kind of girl. And a planner doesn’t always work for me. So having an open-dated option is huge!!! Keeping a planner with me on my travels definitely helps me staff focus and can calm my anxiety
Anti-Nausea Patches - These are a life saver. I used them for the first time recently on a week long road trip through the winding roads of Pennsylvania. As someone who can get car sick on a short trip down the road to the grocery store, these things were a miracle find!! I put one behind my ear and one on my stomach and WOW! JUST WOW! The difference it made.
Sleep Mask - Sleep is easily the most important ingredient in the “staying healthy” recipe. Solid sleep is a must for me! This mask blocks out literally everything.
Water Bottle - The second most important ingredient is hydration!! I’ve taken to calling this bottle my emotional support water bottle because it goes with me everywhere. Legit everywhere. This is my favorite bottle, to date, and I plan on buying many many more!!
DON’T FORGET the cart to haul everything in. This collapsible cart has been with me since 2019. I’ve put it through every test imaginable and even have it on my current trip! It’s been on dozens of trips at this point and hauled all sort of things (including my giant 110lb disabled dog, Rachel Jane. (human for size comparison)).
I’m so excited to share my travels throughout the year with all of you! Cheers to all of the travels, plans, and the exciting year ahead my friends!!
With Love,
Katey <3
